At last!

Thanks to the remnants of Fay it is finally raining!!! Yay! After weeks of no rain at all the ground is rock hard, dusty, and what little there is left of grass is becoming down right CRUNCHY! Thankfully the horses still look good so they are making the best of it. It will take a lot more rain to put a dent in the drought here in Tennessee. However, a few days of rain will surely perk up the grass and allow us to avoid having to put out HAY for the horses. Something we shouldn't have to do untill January! Now they are talking about Gustav becoming a major hurricane. Perhaps more rain is in our future? And another cutting off of the hay fields? We hope so!

Dressage by the River vendor experience

So we spent the weekend at the River Glen Equestrian Park in New Market, TN. This was our first effort at setting up a vendor booth at a show in order to put the word out about our rehabilitation capabilities. The weather was great for showing: sunny and warm but with a nice breeze to keep it from being too hot. This show is fairly small, just 50 horses. So it was a very low key environment to get started in. Still, we met some nice folks and because of that we feel it was a success.

As I mentioned it was a small show. So we were one of just three vendors. We set up right next to the traveling tack store (The Event Shop). We met and enjoyed the company and assistance of the proprietor, Katherine, who is an expert show vendor. She is from Texas and travels a LOT to shows all over the central and southern states. We also met Laurel, the Sundowner of Tennessee sales rep, who just so happens to keep her horses barefoot, too.

In order to get folks more involved we decided to raffle off a bucket of Equipride. Equipride is the great vitamin/mineral supplement that we recommend. We had a few people sign up for the raffle. On Sunday afternoon we drew the winning ticket which belonged to Samantha Monnig of Knoxville, TN.

Danielle, Lauren's daughter, decided to volunteer at the show and worked as a both a Runner and a Ring Steward. She did great work (the facility owner was delighted to have her on board) an she had fun learning the ropes.

River Glen is a very nice show facility. It is too bad that there aren't more events there. The next event is a LARGE Hunter/Jumper show which is expected to host 300 horses! Since we got off to such a good start at the Dressage show we are giving serious thought to setting up once again for another event.
